It's something of an enigma, but it's at it's core The Purest Form of Deftones. It's the closest to audio representation of living in the slums of Sacramento. It's primal, it's ferocious, it's brutal. The good: This album is what started it in 1995. What to not expect in this review: An album ranking thread, popular people pleasing opinions I decided to make this different: an impartial no holds barred overview of the past 8 studio albums by Deftones as a fan of 16 years of the band. Since the "album ranking" threads are something of a common courtesy on reddit. For newer fans: you're about to receive one of the most important and life defining records of your time. For older fans it's something of a ritual and definitely the music event of the year. The band features Chino Moreno (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Stephen Carpenter (guitar), Frank Delgado (keys), Sergio Vega (bass) and Abe Cunningham (drums).Are you ready? In exactly one weak (pun intended) we’re about receive the 9th glorious studio album from one of the best bands on planet Earth. Their sonic vision brings a sound that leaves no doubt you are in the midst of greatness. Deftones today is simply electric and at times bone crushing. It’s most recent from August 2019 titled “Dia de Los Deftones” named after the annual November festival held in San Diego created by Deftones in 2018. In all of Deftones greatness, they even have FIVE different beers co-created and distributed by Belching Beaver. He’s known to still crowd surf during performances which is always a fan favorite even if it means taking one of his Winos shoes to the face. This is the same guy that would launch himself off the highest of speakers into the crowd. The dance involves Chino twirling his fists around resembling a 50’s dance or swings his microphone from the cord like Thor ready to throw Mjǫllnir (his hammer). A tour means more opportunity to see this new lyrical growth and experimentalism live while watching the same lovable movements from front-man, Chino, dubbed “the Chino dance” by his fans on social media. Prayers / Triangles from the album titled, Gore Each album comes with lyrical growth and talent while sprinkled with experimentalism.
